BCE Reports 2011 1st Quarter Results
Type: News

BCE Inc., a Canadian communications company, reported BCE and Bell results for the first quarter of 2011 in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and announced both a 5 percent increase in its annual common share dividend and increased financial guidance for 2011.

In a release on May 12, the Company reported that it delivered strong financial performance with net earnings attributable to common shareholders of $503 million. Net earnings attributable to common shareholders in the first quarter of 2010 in the amount of $706 million included asset sales and other gains of $272 million. Bell had revenue growth of 1.0 percent on service revenue improvement of 1.8 percent, reflecting TV and wireless revenue growth of 7.5 percent and 9.2 percent, respectively; overall EBITDA growth of 6.4 percent and Wireless EBITDA growth of 12.2 percent; and wireless postpaid net additions of 80,648, the highest among Canada's incumbent carriers.
"Bell delivered market-leading performance in wireless, strong revenue growth in wireline Internet and TV services, and exceptional EBITDA growth - the highest in the industry and Bell's best EBITDA growth rate in more than 8 years." said George Cope, President and CEO of Bell Canada and BCE. "These results underscore the Bell team's continued strong execution of our 5 Strategic Imperatives, leveraging our broadband network investments with leading TV, Internet and mobile smartphone services while ensuring rigorous and ongoing cost management - including a $90 million reduction in wireline operating costs year over year."

"We also successfully closed our acquisition of CTV a full quarter ahead of schedule, supporting the increased 2011 financial guidance and the 5 percent dividend increase we're announcing today. The increase is well aligned to our dividend growth model and driven by strong expected earnings accretion from CTV. With the launch of the new Bell Media business unit, we've quickly leveraged these superior content assets with enhanced Bell Mobile TV and Bell TV Online programming and the launch of TSN Radio," said Cope.

The dividend announcement represents BCE's sixth increase to the annual common share dividend, representing a 42 percent increase, since the fourth quarter of 2008. This is the second such increase this year. The BCE annual common share dividend will increase by 5 percent to $2.07 per share, effective with BCE's Q2 2011 dividend payable on July 15, to shareholders of record at the close of business on June 15. The increase positions BCE's payout ratio below the mid-point of its policy range of 65 percent to 75 percent of Adjusted EPS.

NSW:Unions campaign for same-sex marriage

SYDNEY, Dec 1 AAP - Unions have banded together to campaign for a change to Labor's
policy on same-sex marriage ahead of the ALP National Conference on Friday.

Prime Minister Julia Gillard has proposed a conscience vote on the issue but the unions
say marriage equality is a basic right, not a matter of belief or conscience.

Thirteen unions have formed a group called Unions for Marriage Equality, the NSW and
ACT Australian Services Union Branch Secretary Sally McManus said.

She said the group is campaigning for Labor to change its policy to one of supporting
gay marriage.

"Unions have always been a driving force behind equality and social justice and we
are proud to stand together with friends and families to overcome this inequality," she
said in a statement.

"At the upcoming national conference, Unions for Marriage Equality will be pushing
for a change to the party platform on this issue."

Speaking to reporters in Sydney, Labor frontbencher Brendan O'Connor said he supported
debate on same-sex marriage at the ALP conference but would not be drawn on his personal
views about the issue.

"I think the debate should be had and I'd like to hear the arguments that are put," he said.

"As a member of the parliament, if there is a conscience vote I'd like to see the legislation."

He said he was undecided on whether there should be a binding vote of parliamentary
members on the issue.

"There are credible arguments on both sides and I do have an open mind to some of the
issues that are going to be discussed in the debate," he said.

ASU member Eamon, a son of same-sex parents, said change was long overdue.

"My mums have been together for 20 years. They don't need to prove anything but we
should be able to celebrate and recognise their love, which is all that anyone wanting
to get married wants," he said.

VIC:Two police officers disciplined over death

Two Victoria Police officers have faced a disciplinary hearing following the death
of a man who was hit by a truck and killed .. after he was dropped off on a rural Victorian
highway in 2006.

PAUL CARTER was left on the Sturt Highway by Mildura members NIGEL HOYLE and STEVE
RITCHIE on August 5 .. after the 34-year-old indigenous man had been picked up and "processed"

for drinking.

His former girlfriend DULCIE SIMPSON had asked police to collect him from her home
.. as he'd been drinking heavily and had become rowdy after the death of his brother that
day.

At the time he was dropped off Mr CARTER had registered a blood-alcohol reading of
0.17 .. was wearing only light non-reflective clothing and the outside temperature was
six degrees Celsius.

Victoria Police says after today's hearing one senior constable will be transferred
out of the Mildura police service area for 12 months .. while the other's been placed
on a good behaviour bond for 12 months.

Qld: Industrial umpire hears NAPLAN dispute

The Queensland government's hauling public school teachers to the industrial umpire
for the second time in a month today .. over their planned boycott of the national literacy
and numeracy tests.

The government sought orders yesterday from the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission
to make it illegal for teachers to boycott the mid-May National Assessment Program Literacy
and Numeracy tests.

The Queensland Teachers' Union says most of its 40-thousand members voted not to supervise
the tests .. over concerns results will be used to create unfair league tables on the
federal government's new My School website.

But the government says if state school students don't sit the tests .. the lack of
data could put 20 million dollars in federal funding at risk.

The case will be heard in Brisbane from 1pm today.

Fed: Australia farewells the wealthy, the brave and the old

AAP General News (Australia)

Fed: Australia farewells the wealthy, the brave and the old

By Doug Conway, Senior Correspondent

SYDNEY, AAP - Richard Pratt, Ted Kenna and Jack Ross - Australia lost one of its wealthiest
citizens, one of its bravest and its very oldest in 2009.

The nation also farewelled a trio of big names in showbiz - Bud Tingwell, Ray Barrett
and Don Lane.

Here is a chronology of notable Australians to pass on this year:

* Jan 13: Aviation pioneer Nancy Bird Walton, 93, in Sydney. She was taught to fly
as a teenager by Charles Kingsford-Smith in 1933, she became Australia's first commercially
licensed female pilot two years later and went on to pioneer an air ambulance service
for outback NSW. So it was fitting that she found her final resting place in the sky,
her ashes scattered from a Tiger Moth over a Hunter Valley museum that showcases her achievements.

She was remembered by former Sydney Airports CEO Tony Stuart as "an inspirational Australian
whose infectious enthusiasm, true blue grit and commitment to helping others touched all
who met her".

* Feb 7: Newsreader Brian Naylor, 78, at Kinglake, Victoria. A fixture on Melbourne
television for four decades, Naylor was among 173 people who died in Victoria's Black
Saturday bushfires, along with his wife Moiree. He was remembered by colleagues as a great
communicator and smooth talker but, sadly, remained estranged from his son Greg, excluding
him from his $20 million estate after a battle over a documentary production company.

Naylor was famous for his TV sign-off: "May your news be good news".

* April 6: Rugby player Shawn Mackay, 26, in hospital in Durban, South Africa, eight
days after being struck by a car. A life cruelly cut short had tears streaming down the
faces of pall-bearers at his Sydney funeral, including his brother Matt, his best friend
and former Wallabies vice-captain Morgan Turinui, and his ACT Brumbies captain Stephen
Hoiles. His uncle, John Worley, said in his eulogy: "As we all know, rugby is the game
they play in heaven, and we know who will be captaining the side."

* April 12: Anti-corruption stalwart Frank Costigan, 78, in Melbourne. He was appointed
in 1980 to chair a royal commission into corruption and criminality on the Australian
waterfront, but it went on to encompass organised crime and widespread tax evasion, exposing
the infamous "bottom of the harbour" schemes. One alleged criminal linchpin was nicknamed
in the media the "Goanna". Australia's richest man, Kerry Packer, later admitted he was
"Goanna" but denied all the allegations against him.

April 13: Sir Marcus Loane, 97, the first Australian-born Anglican Archbishop of Sydney,
who served from 1966 to 1982. Current Archbishop Peter Jensen described him as a remarkable
leader who spoke up for the poor, served both church and nation, and offered leadership
which "transcended politics".

April 28: Businessman Richard Pratt, 74, of prostate cancer, in Melbourne. The multi-billionaire
cardboard king, the nation's fourth richest man, was overseer of his Polish family's packaging
and recycling group Visy, which was created to supply cardboard boxes to fruitgrowers
in Shepparton in the 1930s. The former actor, who loved to sing If I Were A Rich Man,
became one of Australia's most generous philanthropists. Some dirty laundry involving
his private life was aired in 2000 when it was revealed he had a mistress, Shari-Lee Hitchcock,
and a daughter from that union. But his conviction for price fixing in 2005 caused him
most grief. He remained a much-loved figure, and trucking magnate Lindsay Fox said after
visiting his sick-bed: "As many men as women would have shed a tear inside."

May 13: Actor Charles "Bud" Tingwell, 86, of prostate cancer, in Melbourne. He couldn't
say no to battler Darryl Kerrigan in the hit movie The Castle when, as the retired barrister,
he donated his legal expertise to save a family home. And he didn't say no in real life.

He did not believe in turning down any part unless there was a very good reason. Which
is why he made 143 film and TV appearances over seven decades. They ranged from black
and white TV cop shows like Homicide to mini-series such as Changi and All The Rivers
Run, guest spots on The Sullivans and Neighbours, and feature films like The Castle, Puberty
Blues and Breaker Morant. He also flew 75 reconnaissance missions over Europe as a WWII
pilot. His son, Dr Christopher Tingwell, said: "I was prouder of him being a Spitfire
pilot. That fitted the bill more of a hero."

June 3: Soldier Jack Ross, 110, in Bendigo, Victoria. He was Australia's oldest man
and last World War I digger, though he never saw active service after enlisting in the
final few months. A family friend ascribed his longevity to "good luck, good living, good
eating and no booze". Victorian Premier John Brumby described Mr Ross as a figure from
an age that, regrettably, had passed. "We don't make people like Jack Ross any more,"

Mr Brumby said. "But we should."

June 5: Cancer surgeon and TV doctor Chris O'Brien, 57, after a three-year battle with
brain cancer, in Sydney. Australia came to know him through his regular appearances on
the Nine Network's reality medical program RPA, which offered a window on his daily triumphs
and sorrows. "The show was never supposed to be about clever doctors showing off their
skills or individual surgeons demonstrating a new or tricky operation," Prof O'Brien wrote
in his 2008 memoir Never Say Die. "It was all about the patient's journey - the difficult
decisions, the discomfort and pain, the worry, heartache, and even grief." Neurosurgeon
Dr Charlie Teo called him "the great gold standard by which most doctors judge themselves".

July 8: Soldier Ted Kenna, 90, in Melbourne. He was Australia's last surviving Victoria
Cross recipient from World War II. Prime Minister Kevin Rudd called him "the stuff of
legend" and his mates called him a bloke who liked a beer and a bet. He earned his VC
in northern New Guinea in 1945 for a stunning few seconds of "magnificent bravery", when
he almost single-handedly knocked out a Japanese machine-gun post. In full view, he emptied
his Bren gun from the hip then called for a rifle to finish the job. An old friend, Major
General Gordon Maitland, said: "He recognised the stature of being a Victoria Cross holder,
but he sought no glamour, no reward. He wore it with empathy and he wore it for all of
those who fought with him."

Sept 8: Actor Ray Barrett, 82, on the Gold Coast, from a brain haemorrhage after a
fall at his home. Barrett appeared alongside Graham Kennedy in the screen adaptation of
Don's Party, and won an AFI best actor award for his role in Fred Schepisi's The Chant
of Jimmie Blacksmith. His last major part was as Ramsden in Baz Luhrmann's epic Australia.

Playwright David Williamson described Barrett as the consummate actor, saying: "You couldn't
take your eyes off him."

Oct 22: Entertainer and TV compere Don Lane, 75, in Sydney after battling Alzheimer's
disease. Known as the "lanky Yankee", the New York-born nightclub act hosted a Tonight
show which once made him Australian television's highest paid and most popular performer.

He is credited with nicknaming his partner Bert Newton "Moonface". Lane won 16 Logies
including a gold. When he was inducted into the Logies hall of fame in 2003, the former
US military draftee quipped: "The last time I was inducted to anything I ended up in the
army for three years." Lane was farewelled at a showbiz funeral where stars like Helen
Reddy, Barry Crocker and Jon English relived something he left in abundance - memories.

Fed: Modest recovery dependent on stimulus package: Swan

AAP General News (Australia)

Fed: Modest recovery dependent on stimulus package: Swan

(Eds: adds further comment from Mr Swan)

BRISBANE, Aug 7 AAP - Treasurer Wayne Swan says the Reserve Bank of Australia's forecast
of a modest recovery is based on the full implementation of the government's stimulus
package.

In its monetary policy statement released on Friday, the central bank forecast gross
domestic product (GDP) to rise by 0.5 per cent over the year before lifting to one per
cent in the year to June 2010.

In its last statement, the RBA forecasted GDP to contract by one per cent in calendar
2009 and grow by half a per cent in the year ending June 2010.

Mr Swan said the improved outlook was dependent on the government carrying out its
stimulus package in full.

"The one thing we can see here in the Reserve Bank forecasts is that they are predicated
on a modest recovery and economic stimulus being fully implemented," he told reporters
in Brisbane.

Australia would still see higher unemployment over time, lower business investment
and less income from commodities, he said.

But he said the government was encouraged by the positive signs.

"Australia is the strongest growing major advanced economy in the world with the second
lowest unemployment, and the lowest debt and deficit," he said.

"And part of that story has been the timely and strong action from both the federal
government and the Reserve Bank in terms of the implementation of fiscal policy and monetary
policy.

"We acted early and we acted in a powerful way and the consequence of that is that
many Australians remain in work and many more breadwinners get up in the morning and go
to work."

He said reducing the stimulus package would "pull the rug out from underneath economic recovery".

Mr Swan said the RBA had pointed to tentative positive signs in the global economy
and that the RBA saw no risk associated with Australia's inflationary outlook.

Vic: Woman arrested following violent altercation at flats

MELBOURNE, Aug 26 AAP - A woman has been arrested following an aggravated burglary
in Melbourne's north in which she doused another woman with petrol.

Shortly before 7.30 last night(AEST), the woman became aggressive and started yelling
at her neighbours from the driveway of a block of flats in Seston Street, Reservoir, police
said.

The 42-year-old smashed windows in two flats, then entered the second unit, arming
herself with a curtain rod and threatening the occupants.

She left briefly, grabbed a can of petrol and returned to the second flat where a female
occupant confronted her outside.

The intruder poured petrol on the woman, then returned to her own flat and doused it
with petrol before police arrived.

She was arrested at the scene and taken to Preston police station, where detectives
will interview her.

Fed: Indigenous delegates express frustration with summit

By Adam Gartrell

CANBERRA, April 20 AAP - Several Australia 2020 delegates examining indigenous issues
have expressed frustration with the summit, with some complaining ideas were watered down.

Increased formal recognition of Aborigines - possibly in the form of a treaty - was
a top priority for many delegates.

The need for a new representative body and a new watchdog to oversee the government's
approach to indigenous issues also proved popular.

Delegates also pushed for better partnerships between indigenous people and business,
wider use of boarding schools for indigenous students, and the establishment of a future
fund for indigenous children.

Indigenous leader Patrick Dodson called for a change to the assimilationist ethos which
continued to underpin Aboriginal affairs, urging the need for a "new national dialogue".

But other delegates such as West Australian indigenous artist Brenda Croft took exception
to such terms.

"It just sounds really namby pamby to me, what does it mean?" she told her fellow delegates.

"I think there's a level of frustration that we're not getting to a ... point where
we can come up with anything concrete," she said of the summit.

A number of delegates also expressed dissatisfaction with a document meant to sum up
the group's ideas, and urged changes and additions.

Former Australian of the Year Fiona Stanley said the document had "watered down" delegate's
ideas and failed to capture the passion in the room.

"This is just wishy-washy," she said, generating applause throughout the room.

Prof Stanley later helped Indigenous Affairs Minister Jenny Macklin make changes to the document.

Queensland indigenous leader Noel Pearson did not turn up to the summit today, after
criticising yesterday's sessions for failing to generate new ideas.

Mr Dodson called Mr Pearson's assessment "a bit harsh", but said he feared the ideas
generated at the summit may be eaten up by the same political machine which repeatedly
failed to act on reports into indigenous disadvantage.

"(Ideas) will be put back into the same framework, and it will be responded to on a
convenience basis, rather than on a reformist agenda," Mr Dodson said.

NSW: Child porn ring smashed after raids in NSW and Victoria

By Julian Drape

SYDNEY, Dec 16 AAP - Two teachers and a former police officer were among six men arrested
as police cracked an Australia-wide child pornography ring in weekend raids after a covert
11-month operation.

Police in NSW and Victoria swooped overnight to smash the network, which had been producing
and distributing illegal images and grooming kids for future abuse, police say.

Eight separate raids by 69 officers in the last two days resulted in six arrests plus
the seizure of computers and equipment containing "thousands of images" of child porn.

Officers posed as children on the internet to infiltrate the network during a police
sting operation that began almost a year ago.

Commander Kevin Zuccato, from the Australian Federal Police Hi-Tech Crime Operations,
said he was "very hopeful" the operation, codenamed Strike Force Pymont, would now lead
to overseas arrests.

"The investigation is continuing and we are communicating internationally with our
colleagues overseas," Commander Zuccato told reporters in Sydney today.

Police believe most of the child pornography was produced overseas but was collated
and distributed in Australia.

Some of the children involved were infants but their ages ranged up to 16 years.

In NSW, a 38-year-old man from South West Rocks on the mid-north NSW coast has been
charged with transmitting, disseminating and possessing child pornography, grooming a
child aged under 16 and producing child pornography.

A 51-year-old Orange man, a 22-year-old Griffith man and a 29-year-old Coonabarabran
man have been charged with a string of offences including disseminating, producing and
possessing child pornography.

The four made brief, formal appearances today before magistrates at Port Macquarie,
Orange, Tamworth and Wagga Wagga where they were refused bail and will reappear in court
tomorrow.

In Victoria, a 49-year-old Melbourne man charged with transmitting and possessing child
pornography was refused bail and will appear in court tomorrow.

A 31-year-old man from the Sydney suburb of Rosebery was charged with drug-related
offences and granted conditional bail.

He will appear in Waverley Local Court on January 23.

NSW Child Protection and Sex Crimes Squad Commander Detective Superintendent Helen
Begg said the fact most of the arrests were made in country NSW "shows that these types
of crimes are no longer confined to the city".

She said it was "very frightening" two teachers and a former police officer were allegedly
involved.

"The offenders ... came from all walks of life including those in positions of trust,"

Supt Beg told reporters.

"There was a former police officer, a trainee teacher and a swimming teacher, as well
as a truck driver."

Commander Zuccato said internet predators weren't always "the person wearing the raincoat
in the park".

"These are normal people that live in our community ... so we need to be vigilant," he said.

He said parents shouldn't leave children playing on a computer unsupervised.

"We've demonstrated over the last couple of days that we can gain their trust, we can
infiltrate their networks and we can take them down," Commander Zuccato said.

"If you think you're anonymous on the internet, think again, because the people you
may be talking to may well be the police."

NSW Police Minister Campbell today labelled the alleged ring "a disgrace".

"These are vile individuals who would peddle in this type of material and groom young
children and take advantage of them," Mr Campbell told reporters.

NSW: No urgency for dumped Towke's replacement

SYDNEY, Aug 4 AAP - The NSW Liberal Party feels no urgency to find a replacement candidate
for the federal southern Sydney seat of Cook following a decision not to endorse Michael
Towke.

In a move supported by Prime Minister John Howard, Mr Towke was yesterday dumped as
candidate for Cook following allegations of branch stacking and inaccuracies on his preselection
nomination form.

"Up until the decision was reached yesterday, no one was getting ahead of themselves
about `what next?'," a NSW Liberal Party spokesman said.

"We just want to let the dust settle and in a couple of days we will start looking
at possibilities for the candidacy," the spokesman said.

"Decisions will start in the next few days to produce a candidate and once that begins
it should happen quite quickly and resolve the issue."

Mr Towke won a preselection ballot in July for the safe Sydney-based seat, currently
held by Bruce Baird, beating a field of high-calibre candidates with the support of the
party's right faction.

However, Mr Towke's candidacy was put on hold following accusations that he provided
false details in his preselection application and that he had paid membership fees for
hundreds of new recruits.

The NSW Liberal Party executive is understood to have cast 11 votes against Mr Towke,
nine in favour of him, with two people abstaining from the vote.

Mr Towke has denied lying on his nomination form, and has said that enemies within
the Liberal Party were responsible for circulating material to damage his reputation.

Mr Howard today said the executive had made a decision and the next step was to endorse
a new candidate.

"... The executive always takes the right decisions on these matters because they are
in full possession of the facts," he told reporters in Sydney.

"I support the executive's decision, I respect it, I am a member of the party like
anybody else. What now we should do is move on and choose another candidate."

NSW: Debnam calls for transparency but won't halt donations

By Kim Christian and Adam Bennett

SYDNEY, Feb 11 AAP - The NSW opposition has called for more transparency in the state's
development planning process.

Opposition Leader Peter Debnam told a rally of community action groups attended by
more than 1,000 people in central Sydney today that big business should not decide the
future of NSW communities.

"Developments in NSW should be decided on merit instead of donations," Mr Debnam said.

He did not answer questions on whether the Liberal Party would refuse to accept donations
from developers.

As rain fell on the rally in Hyde Park Mr Debnam said the state Labor government had
stopped listening to people. The size of the vocal crowd at the rally indicated the need
for change, he said.

Mr Debnam said he was happy with the coalition's campaign progress despite reports
that his party had failed to field candidates in 10 NSW seats before the March 24 election

"We've got the best candidates in every electorate and you can hear that from the community...they're
very happy with our candidates, they're very happy with the issues that we're taking up
on their behalf," Mr Debnam said.

NSW Greens MP Sylvia Hale told the rally the Greens would introduce a private member's
bill to scrap the contentious Part 3A of NSW Planning laws which gives the Planning Minister
power to take over significant developments.

She said both major parties had voted for the amendment and received more than $18
million in developer's donations since 2000.

At a press conference NSW Premier Morris Iemma rejected the opposition leader's claims.

He said planning decisions were made on the basis of the state's planning laws and nothing else.

"We have a balanced approach when it comes to development, on the one hand stimulating
investment, jobs and growth, and with that comes prosperity, and at the same time balancing
that with conservation, preservation, and protection of the environment," Mr Iemma said.

He said the government would not change the law for projects of state significance
that delivered jobs and created growth and prosperity for NSW.

NSW: Man accused of lying to ASIO about alleged Brigitte links

A man accused of lying to Australia's intelligence agency about his alleged links with
French terror suspect WILLY BRIGITTE, has appeared in a Sydney court.

ABDUL RAKID HASAN is charged with two counts of making misleading statements under
questioning by the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation in 2003.

According to an Australian Federal Police statement tendered to Downing Centre Local
Court, HASAN allegedly helped find accommodation in Sydney's south-west three times for
BRIGITTE -- whom he knew as JAMAL.

BRIGITTE was deported back to France in 2003.

The AFP statement said HASAN allegedly had 23 telephone conversations with BRIGITTE
between June the 12th and September the 29th, 2003.

Vic: Jail for accountant in $3m fraud case

Vic: Jail for accountant in $3m fraud case

MELBOURNE, April 11, AAP - Accountant Robert Andrew Kirsopp was a privileged man who
could have had anything.

But blind ambition became the undoing of the 40-year-old Melbourne Scotch College old
boy and former champion athlete, County Court judge Michael Strong said today as he jailed
Kirsopp for more than four years on fraud charges.

Kirsopp, who pleaded guilty to a total of 39 charges, had claimed at a previous hearing
that stupidity and desperation to rescue his failing businesses led him to hoodwink clients
who trusted him.

Among his victims was the high-profile racehorse trainer Lee Freedman.

The charges included 13 of deception over the the theft and forgery of 221 cheques
to the value of $3.19 million over five years to November 2002.

The father of three was the bookkeeper for the operators of Barrie and Margaret Griffiths,
the owners of a Victorian thoroughbred stud, when he used 215 stolen and forged cheques
to divert $3.14 million to his own bank accounts.

While working for the Freedman brothers, Lee, Richard, Anthony and Michael he stole
six cheques worth $55,500.

Kirsopp, a former professional sprinter who came second in the 1984 Stawell Gift, was
assisting the brothers' full-time bookkeeper at the time and had access to their chequebook.

Kirsopp told police he stole the money out of "stupidity and desperation to keep businesses
afloat".

These interests included three restaurants and several racehorses.

He also pleaded guilty to defrauding the commonwealth, 16 charges of obtaining a financial
advantage by deception and nine of attempting to obtain a financial advantage by deception
by lodging false business activity statements with the Australian Taxation Office.

Judge Strong sentenced Kirsopp to a maximum of seven-and-a-half years and fixed a minimum
term of four years and four months.

The Judge said Kirsopp came from a privileged background and would once have been described
"as the man who had everything".

The judge said that greed might have driven Kirsopp to "this very grave and persistent
offending".

However, there was no evidence of high living.

"The answer may be that you had a blind determination to succeed and to be seen to
succeed," said judge Strong.

"For you, mediocrity in any form was unacceptable," the judge added.

"As one disaster followed the next, you just kept going hoping for a miracle."

Kirsopp entered a downward spiral to "inevitable detection, ruin, disgrace and prison,"

said the judge.

ELetter Chooses Indigo Digital Presses for Internet Mailing Service.

Business/Technology Editors

CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 25, 2000

Indigo's High-Quality, Full-Color Personalization Power Helps ELetter

With Fast, Effective Printing and Direct Mail

ELetter, Inc., an innovative Internet-based business-mailing solution provider, gives even the smallest companies the ability to launch mail campaigns - from their desktops 24 hours a day.

The San Jose, California-based firm, which launched its website last year, uses a unique, fully-automated system that links the input workflow capabilities of Internet technology with the output quality, productivity and reliability of Indigo digital color printing. After initially installing an Indigo (NASDAQ:INDG) TurboStream, ELetter recently added the high-speed, high-performance Indigo UltraStream 2000 digital color press to help handle its accelerating volume of online business.

"We chose Indigo presses after a long evaluation of every option available. It's clear that we made the right decision," says Kurt Brown, ELetter's VP of Engineering. "Our customers love the quality of Indigo color and many of them take full advantage of the variable data capability we can offer whether they're sending out a mailing of 50 or 5,000 pieces. Reliability also is important to us, and Indigo has delivered there as well."

Through ELetter's website (www.eletter.com) customers upload their address lists and content files, including postcards, flyers, letters and booklets. The files are RIPed to the Indigo presses and the result is a sharply printed full-color campaign, simultaneously addressed during the press run - and in the mail within one to four days.

ELetter's customers are primarily small to mid-size organizations in a wide variety of sectors, including real estate, insurance, health care, financial services, travel and direct sales - anyone, in fact, with a need for targeted, short-run mailings that incorporate variable data. The average press run is approximately 800 pieces, although the company has executed runs as high as 10,000. ELetter offers visitors to its website an opportunity to perform a preliminary test mailing through its system before ordering.

"ELetter has built an exciting, successful new business around the dual digital technologies of the Internet and Indigo," says Rick Mangold, Vice President of Sales for Indigo North America. "By making the power of one-to-one marketing accessible to businesses of every scale, they've also opened up new and highly productive applications for Indigo presses."
